David Balade now offers various drawing workshops he elaborated during the preparation of his books on Celtic motives, or during the organization of exhibitions in connection with the traditional symbolics around the world. Whether for adults or children, adapted to small groups of about ten people, these workshops appear to be educational as well as playful.

Celtic drawing workshops

Since 2003, with more than fifteen books on Celtic motifs published by the Editions Ouest-France , David Balade appears as one of the French specialists in Celtic graphics and symbolism. He proposes a series of drawing workshops in groups of about ten people where participants will discover the geometric structures of these many motifs, and personalize their own motif.

During two hours, from an iconographic catalog of more than 500 collected images of the finest examples of animals in Celtic art, David Balade assists the students in the drawing on paper of their favorite animal. For the ornamentation of these Celtic animals, the artist will give some tip advices (mainly elements of celtic triskel and interlacingss workshops). Material can be provided if necessary. For a group of 10 to 15 people.

Drawing celtic animals

During two hours, David Balade explains the rules of geometric construction of the triskel and the celtic mandala with ruler and compass on paper. After this drawing workshop, the students will be able to draw their own personalised mandala, with ruler and compass on paper. Material can be provided if necessary. For a group of 10 to 12 people.

Drawing a celtic mandala

During two hours, from an alphabet catalog of more than a thousand listed letters, from famous illuminated Irish and Insular books, David Balade accompanies the students in the copy or thecreation of a personalized celtic letter. For the ornamentation of these Celtic animals, the artist will give some tip advices (mainly elements of celtic triskel and interlacingss workshops). Material can be provided if necessary. For a group of 10 to 15 people.

During some two and a half hours, David Balade explains the rules of geometric construction and other simple techniques to create a beautiful labyrinth (mainly from a grid). Dessiner un animal celtique

Durant deux heures, à partir d’un abécédaire de plus de mille lettres répertoriées, issues de grands livres enluminés irlandais et insulaires, David Balade accompagne les participants dans la copie sur papier de la lettre de leur choix. L’élève peut aussi s’inspirer de l’abécédaire pour créer une lettre plus personnalisée. Pour l’ornementation de ces lettres celtiques, l’artiste donnera au cours de cet atelier quelques éléments des ateliers triskels et entrelacs. Matériel fourni si nécessaire. Pour un groupe de 10 à 15 personnes.

Beyond his teaching on Celtic motifs, David Balade also offers drawing workshops that he has developped during his last exhibitions. His analytical approach to the structure of forms allows participants to enter complex visual sets by repeating simple patterns.

Kolams or rangolis are decorative diagrams traditionally made every morning before their door by women in India, especially South India. For about two hours, David Balade explains in a playful way how to build these diagrams from point matrices, through drawings games on paper. Material can be provided if necessary.
